As a launch and partner of Common Ground, House to House (H2H) is primarily responsible for the construction of renovated and new housing for the families of our community as directed by the Board of Common Ground. In most cases, vacant property is purchased and, when feasible, existing homes are gutted and completely rebuilt. H2H also provides new and renovated housing for Common Ground and H2H staff as needed and coordinates other construction projects such as the Community Center renovation and the Annex at 1623 Mobile Road where H2H has its offices and receives applications from prospective residents.
In addition to housing and special ministry facilities, H2H provides a range of economic development services from business plan preparation to facility upfit. Educational training for prospective homeowners or business owners is coordinated and offered in the neighborhood. The mission of H2H is an extension of the 'holistic development' in Common Ground's mission. We seek to develop the neighborhood through physical improvements to real estate. We seek to develop Christian families by providing better housing, educational training, family counseling, and employment opportunities. The name House to House is taken from Acts 5:42 where the disciples have been celebrating the fact that they were found worthy to be persecuted for their faith: "Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the Jesus is the Lord".
